Carlisle United staged a remarkable recovery to beat Reading in the first round of the FA Cup last month.
But the Blues were unable to repeat that epic result at Blackpool where they went under 4-1 in the day’s last second round tie.
Three first-half goals had helped League One Blackpool into a commanding position against their National League visitors and although the second half was shared 1-1, it leaves Mark Hughes side to concentrate on the League and FA Trophy.
The 3,000 travelling United fans would have hoped for another Cup comeback when Luke Armstrong scored early in the second-half.
But Blackpool’s fourth goal soon afterwards confirmed there was to be no recovery this time.
Actually, apart from a bright opening ten minutes when they forced a series of corners, Carlisle never looked like seriously troubling
Blackpool keeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell had to make the first save of the game to concede a corner from Chris Conn-Clarke’s shot and the home defence stood strong during those early efforts from the Blues.
It was Blackpool who took the lead on 12 minutes after a shot from Scott Banks was well blocked by keeper Harry Lewis, but the ball fell kindly to Tom Bloxham who wasn’t going to miss from eight yards.
Then, after Peacock-Farrell had made a decent stop from an effort by Conn-Clarke, Blackpool took charge with two goals in three minutes before the break.
A strong run and clever pass from Emil Hansson set up top scorer Ashley Fletcher who gave Lewis no chance with a punishing shot into the roof of the net.
The Blackpool fans were still celebrating when Banks cut in from the wing and curled a lovely left-foot shot into the far right-hand corner and send the Seasiders into the break with a three-goal advantage.
Carlisle did have a chance immediately after the re-start but from close-range Aaron Hayden couldn’t find the finish.
However Carlisle did reduce the deficit on 51 minutes when Luke Armstrong was on the end of a cross from David Ajiboye and turned it home cleverly.
Ajiboye saw an effort saved but then Blackpool restored their three-goal advantage when Fletcher scored his second, and 10th of the season, slotting home from short range.
