Primary schools and groups are being called to take part in this year’s Reindeer Run to raise vital funds for Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice.

The Reindeer Run is returning for its fifth year this festive season with participants invited to fundraise by running, skipping, dancing or galloping in reindeer antlers around their school hall, playground, or playing field.

Every year the Reindeer Run raises thousands of pounds for local children and young people.

Jigsaw is the only children’s hospice in Cumbria, providing support and care to families from across the county and South West Scotland.

This year schools and groups can do their sponsored Reindeer Run any time until December 31.

Those who sign up will be supported by Jigsaw’s fundraising team who will deliver everything needed for the run and offer advice and assistance as required.

Jigsaw asks for a minimum of £2 sponsorship per child to cover basic costs and everything else raised goes directly to Jigsaw to ensure the hospice can continue to provide compassionate, specialist care for children living with life-limiting illnesses and their families when they need it most.

Vicki Lesley, community fundraiser at Jigsaw, said: “Every year the schools and community groups who take part in the Reindeer Run amaze us with their efforts, and raise thousands of pounds.

“Thank you to everyone who is taking part this year. It’s been wonderful hearing the ideas and meeting those who are making it happen.

“There is still time for more schools and groups to sign up and join the fun. Every donation raised will support Jigsaw, Cumbria’s only children’s hospice.

“Your efforts will help care for children and young people with medically complex and life-shortening conditions, offering respite and overnight care. As a charity, we rely on the kindness of our community to fund the wonderful, much-needed services we provide.”

Schools and groups that sign up will receive a welcome pack, with an example letter to explain what the Reindeer Run is to parents and guardians, sponsorship forms, and antlers.

The team at Jigsaw will be on hand with any support needed and can arrange visits from the hospice’s mascot Hospuss, collect donations and deliver certificates after the run. Schools and groups will also receive a personalised video as a thank you for their efforts.
