Workington’s problems at the foot of the NPL Premier Division increased with a 3-1 home defeat to Bamber Bridge.
It was a result that hadn’t looked on before the last quarter but two goals inside two minutes cost the Reds as Bamber Bridge avenged their home defeat to the Cumbrians earlier in the season.
Nobody could have seen that coming at half-time with the sides level at 1-1 and Workington having had more chances than their rivals.
It had been a decent game after a slow start and Reds had defended well they needed to, and also created two or three chances that could have been converted.
Carlisle United loanee Dan Hopper had one close-range effort blocked by a defender while another at the far post was well saved by goalkeeper Aidan Dowling.
The hard-working Steven Rigg had a header just wide and Kai Nugent also had a close-range effort thwarted by a brave defensive block.
At the other end Danny Eccles did well to block a close-range effort from Ewan Bange and twice Tyler Magliore made clever defensive interceptions.

The opening goal came from the visitors on 23 minutes after some tidy build-up ended with Jack Baxter firing home with a low shot from the edge of the area which went across Eccles to find a resting place in the far corner.
Workington were level eight minutes later when Rigg did well to drive at the Bridge defence before finding the run of Kai Nugent and he finished confidently past Dowling.
The home side still looked the more likely to score early in the second-half but they couldn’t make the breakthrough and the game changed dramatically with two goals in as many minutes from Bange.

Workington switched off at the back when Bange headed in a right wing cross and then he was put clear down the middle and made no mistake with a clinical finish.
Workington’s afternoon went from bad to worse when defender Jordan Little was sent off five minutes from time for a second yellow card.

Manager Billy Barr announced a new signing at the game; reported positive talks with another player and in the next fortnight, before Reds next game, will be out and about looking to see what’s available.
