Workington Reds have signed a former Blackburn Rovers player who impressed Billy Barr during his time at Ewood Park.
Barrow-born Isaac Whitehall can play either mid-field or in defence and has been dogged by injuries, which eventually led to his release from Rovers.
He has a job outside football now, and working shifts would affect his availability for the Reds but he is trying to reschedule those at the moment.
Reds boss Barr said: “When I got the job at Workington he as one of the first names I contacted to see how he was doing. He hasn’t played for a while now which is why he has been training with us for a fortnight.
“I know what an outstanding footballer he was at Blackburn and I’m hoping we can get him in and he has the chance to show his quality.
“I was also speaking to another player before the game with Bamber Bridge and In felt quite positive about that.
“We haven’t a game for a fortnight so I will be out and about watching games and seeing just who might be available.”
Whitehall, now 23, started with age group teams in Barrow before joining Blackburn as a 12-year-old after impressing in a game against the Rovers.
He had been out for two-and-half-years with a foot injury but came back strongly with some big performances for the Under-23s before signing a new one-year deal in July 2024.
