Kendal forward Tom Kilifin has announced his retirement from the game following an ACL injury.
Kilifin, known as Killer, also represented Lancaster City, Workington, Northwich Victoria, and Bury and became a firm fan favourite across his multiple spells at Parkside Road – after first appearing when he was just 17 years old.
The best season of his career was on his return to Kendal for the 2022/23 campaign when he scored 33 goals to finish as the NWCounties League’s top scorer and earn a move to Bury.
After returning midway through last season, he added another 13 goals in 27 appearances, and was named vice-captain.
Among his other achievements, the 32-year-old striker won the NPL Division One title with Lancaster City in 2016/17, securing promotion to the Northern Premier League.
Kendal manager Matt Flynn said: “It’s incredibly sad and heart-breaking to hear the news about Killer and his injury.
“Having done my ACL a few times myself, I know exactly how he feels, and I’m absolutely gutted for him.
“Tom is not only a fantastic footballer, but an amazing human being.
“He’s enjoyed a great playing career that’s taken him to some very respectable clubs, and he’s scored some truly memorable goals along the way.

“The moments he’s created for people during his playing days will stay with them for a lifetime.
“He was someone I was desperate to sign this season, not just for his footballing ability, but for the presence he brings to the changing room. He was doing so well for us, but sadly, things haven’t turned out the way any of us imagined.
“Tom will always be welcome at the football club, and he’ll be missed massively. I hope that we can have a big turn-out for him on Saturday and give him the reception he deserves.
“He now has time to reflect on his career and make new memories with his beautiful family. Good luck, Killer!”
A club statement said: “Everyone at Kendal Town sends Tom and his family the very best wishes for the future.
“We look forward to honouring his 16 years of service to football this Saturday at home to Guisborough Town.”
