After less than 12 months at the helm, Andy Whing has been sacked by Barrow following last night’s 3-0 home defeat to Tranmere Rovers.
That loss left them 18th in League Two, just four points above the drop zone the same position they were in when he took over in January, joining from Solihull Moors.
They had only won once in 15 games, a run which cost Stephen Clements his job, but from Whing’s arrival they picked up and only lost once in their final 13 games to finish 16th in the table.
But it sparked a hectic close season with 16 new arrivals and 17 departures, one of the biggest turnarounds of staff ever made at the club.
The home defeat to Tranmere was their sixth League in succession without a win and Whing has now left along with his assistant Craig Pead.
Former Carlisle United manager Neil McDonald, who only arrived at the club last month, has been placed in interim charge.
A club statement by chairman Paul Hornby said: “After careful consideration, we feel that our current league position does not reflect the quality and the investment that has been put into the squad that we have assembled.
“We believe that making a change at this stage of the season gives us the best possible chance to begin climbing the league table.”
It means that the Bluebirds are looking for a ninth permanent boss since they returned to the EFL in 2020.
Their next League Two game is on Saturday when they make the long trip to Gillingham who are ninth, a point outside the play-off positions.
