Rescue dogs wait over two years for new homes

A Carlisle animal charity is appealing for someone to come forward to give a forever home to two rescue dogs who have been waiting for over two years for a new owner.

Five-year-olds Jimmy and Hector were rescued from a small brick cell abroad where they were kept in complete darkness for the first two years of their lives.

Miracle’s Mission, based in Harraby, became aware of their circumstances and stepped in to remove them from the environment and begin the long process of rehabilitation.

A spokesman for Miracle’s Mission said: “Two years on, Jimmy and Hector have made a remarkable transformation. They are now healthy, happy, playful, and ready to find homes in the UK.

“Jimmy and Hector survived circumstances no dog should ever endure, yet they remain two of the sweetest, happiest, bouncy boys you could meet.

“They’ve been fully rehabilitated and are so ready for a family to notice them. It breaks our hearts that they’ve waited this long, and we hope this campaign helps them find the loving home they both deserve.”

Despite their progress, both dogs continue to be overlooked for adoption, largely due to their large size high energy and the need for adopters who are confident with big strong breeds.

The charity said they were affectionate, friendly, social with other dogs, and extremely eager to bond with people. They are neutered, fully assessed, and ready to travel to adopters anywhere in the UK.

It added: “Jimmy and Hector’s journey from darkness to health has been long and emotional.

“When they first arrived into rescue care, they were fearful, under-socialised, and unsure how to interact with the world around them. With patient training, consistent routine, and gentle exposure to everyday life, they have blossomed into joyful, confident dogs.

“The rescue fears they may remain stuck in long-term limbo unless their story reaches local people who can offer them a chance.

Their story is being highlighted through DoggyWarriors’ national Hope for Christmas campaign, which shines a light on eight long-waiting rescue dogs across the UK.

“Jimmy and Hector’s story is very moving,” said Lisette van Riel, founder of DoggyWarriors. “They have survived unthinkable conditions and still have so much love to give. They deserve a home more than ever and we hope someone will see their potential.”

The campaign aims to give visibility to dogs most at risk of being forgotten due to age, size, medical history, or circumstances of rescue.

With the festive season approaching, Miracle’s Mission hopes the community will help Jimmy and Hector finally be noticed.

“These boys have waited far too long,” says Lisette. “Finding them a home this Christmas would be an incredible gift after everything they’ve endured.”

Adopters can apply through the Miracle’s Mission website at https://www.miraclesmission.org/2023/09/11/jimmy-and-hector-seeking-an-adopter/
