
The body of a man has been recovered from Whitehaven Harbour.
Workington RNLI was called out at around 1.40pm to West Pier.
The volunteers launched their all-weather lifeboat Dorothy May White and inshore lifeboat James R Allan.
The crew of the James R Allan recovered the man and began CPR.
Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful and the volunteers worked with Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team to bring the man ashore.
Cumbria police said they were called at around 3.10pm.
Cumbria police said: “While enquiries are at an extremely early stage, officers will work to establish the identity of the man and how he came to be in the water so would encourage anyone with information which may assist to make contact.”
