People still have time left to share their views about proposed improvements to a Cumbrian railway station and its surrounding area.
Westmorland and Furness Council and consultants Mott MacDonald are seeking feedback on design options for the area around Windermere station as part of the Windermere Gateway project.
The authority appointed Mott MacDonald earlier this year to draw up a concept to improve the station and the spaces around it.
The project aims to create a welcoming arrival point with better connections for people travelling by train, bus, taxi, bike, car or on foot.
This work will build on the Windermere Gateway Transport Infrastructure Supplementary Planning Document, which was adopted by the Lake District National Park Authority in 2021.
The design work is being funded by around £150,000 from the authority’s Local Transport Grant allocation.
The scheme is jointly led by Westmorland and Furness Council, Lake District National Park Authority, National Trust and its developer Urban Splash.
The partners said they sought to ensure a strategic and co-ordinated approach to transport, travel and movement infrastructure in the area.
They added that the long-term vision was to unlock opportunities for a mix of new homes, jobs, sustainable transport connections and an improved welcome for residents and visitors.
Councillor Adrian Waite, cabinet member for environmental services and transport for Westmorland and Furness Council, said: “Many thanks to everybody who came along and took part in the drop-in sessions and who has contributed to the on-line survey.
“Your views will help finalise the concept masterplan. This will be a crucial part of seeking and securing funding to breathe new life into this area and create a world-class welcome to the Lake District.
“There is still time to take part in the on-line survey so please do so if you have an interest in this area and haven’t done so yet.”
Three design options for the station area were presented at public drop-in events on July 3 and July 4.
These options explore different approaches to the station building, forecourt, public spaces, wayfinding and the overall arrival experience.
The online survey closes on Sunday July 19 and can be accessed here.
