A call has gone out for people to come forward with objects from working men’s clubs or mechanics’ institutes for a new exhibition in the Lake District.
The Armitt museum in Ambleside will exhibit Club Culture Cumbria next year, a project by photographer Colin Potsig, which highlights the community hubs through black and white portraits.
It is looking for objects to display alongside the photographs.
The museum is appealing for people to lend it material – which could be physical items, photographs, memorabilia, videos or just simply memories.
Faye Morrissey, the Armitt’s manager and curator said: “We’ve had such wonderful input from community members in recent years, so this is the latest in our calls for local support.
“Objects can tell fascinating stories, and we’d like to share in the everyday items from clubs that people might otherwise just pass over.
“Whether that’s a beer mug, trophy, certificate, craft item or drinks board, we would be delighted to display these contemporary pieces alongside Colin’s stunning photography.”
The Armitt will be collecting objects for the Club Culture Cumbria display during January and February. Email [email protected] or call 015394 31212.
