A Carlisle music promoter is asking people to help him hit his £25,000 fundraising target for the city’s cancer centre at the Cumberland Infirmary.
Andy Park has so far raised just over £24,000 from the sale of his books – and he wants to reach £25,000 by the end of the year.
Andy’s most recent book, Centre Stage, looks back at the vibrant live music scene of the 1960s, drawing on his popular Andy’s Pop Talk column from the Carlisle Journal and his later work through Andy Park Promotions.
Building on the unexpected success of his earlier memoir, Cumbria’s Music Man, the release of Centre Stage has provided the biggest boost to the fundraising effort so far, with all proceeds from both titles donated to the cancer centre.
With less than £1,000 now needed to achieve his end-of-year target, Andy hopes the Christmas period will provide the final boost, with the books suggested as ideal gifts for music lovers and fans of local history.
Andy said: “The Cumberland Infirmary cancer centre means a great deal to me. My wife has received chemotherapy treatment there for a number of years, so giving something back felt like the right thing to do.
“All the proceeds from the books go to the cancer centre as a way of saying thank you.
“I’m extremely grateful to everyone who has bought a copy so far, and with a bit more support, I’m hopeful we can reach the £25,000 target before the end of the year. We haven’t got much left to go now!”
Centre Stage is available to buy in Carlisle from Bookends and the Carlisle Tourist Information Centre, or by direct email order.
The book is £20 plus £3 postage and packing, with all proceeds going to the Cumberland Infirmary Cancer Centre.
