
L&L Property Contractors Snooker League cup action took centre stage with Workington Veterans Club starring by delivering a resounding 5-0 win at Whitehaven’s Rack Shack.
The clash was in the third round of the Derwent Valley Asbestos Removal and Demolition sponsored Eric McMullen Memorial TKO Handicap Trophy.
The evening started with Mark Tatton (+24) producing a break of 37, to comfortably see off Chris McKelvey (+37), 72–37, putting the Vets Club 1-0 up.
Frame two then saw Kevin Basnett (Scr) deliver a contribution of 41 in the process of defeating Lee Dougherty (+44) 97-72, moving the score on to 2-0.
In the next Mark Tunstall (+24) beat Adam Morilla (+44) 66-54 and with the Vets Club also taking the next on the back of a 71-48 triumph over Andrew Carruthers (+45) the Workington outfit moved 4-0 ahead.
In the final frame Paul Johnston (+50) limited Peter McAvoy (+32) to 23 points in a 67-23 victory and a 5-0 match win.
The result sees the Veterans leap to the top of Group B, while Rack Shack drop to third.
Also in group B, United Club B secured their first win of the qualifying stage with a hard-fought 3-2 away success over Workington Conservative Club.
The hosts made the early running with a convincing 84-54 win from Richard McCarthy over Andrew Carter (+45), but the visitors responded strongly as United B’s Adam Sowden (+46) beat Alan Moore (+8) 64-48 to tie the match at 1-1.

Brian Kendall (+48) then edged Stephen Harrison (+34) 67-28 in a strong tactical frame to give Cons a 2-1 lead before United B captain, Stephen Jackson (+33) levelled the match with a composed 62–41 win over Dave Holland (+20).
It was David Petrie (+50) who completed the match victory for United B with a solid win over Ryan Barker, 54-31 and a 3-2 finishing scoreline.
The result moves United Club B level on points with Rack Shack in Group B, both with one win and five frames won. Workington Cons, despite two close results, remain bottom without a win.
In Group A, Workington’s United Club A secured a crucial 3-2 home victory over Workington Legion to keep themselves in contention.
David Chapman (+29) gave the hosts the ideal start with a composed 69-62 win over Legion’s Lewis Straughton (+50), but Simon Tootle (+43) levelled the match with a narrow 60–39 win against Tony Hindmoor (+50).
Legion then took the lead as Adam Hodgson (+44) battled past Darryl Walters (+25), 62–51 in another close contest.
However, United Club A showed their resilience in the final two frames, as Mark Suitor (+28) beat Jordan Ferguson (+50), 70-41 to level the match, and captain Andrew Mitchelhill rounded it off in style with an 81-70 win against Dan Hallam (+50).
The win sees United Club A leap from third to top of Group A, while Legion remain bottom despite another competitive showing.
In the other group A match, and the final contest of the week, Workington Golf Club moved up to second in their group with a narrow 3-2 away win over Maryport Social.

Ryan Ismay (+15) gave Maryport a strong start, defeating Mark Brasted (+15) 50-28 in the opener. However, Golf Club hit back quickly as Bryan Walker (+25) beat Sal Cakmak 50-25 to level the tie.
In the third frame Simon Frazer (+32) swept aside Stuart Shepherd (+21) 77-29 in a clinical showing to put the Golf Club 2-1 ahead.
Andrew Sharp (+34) threatened to pull Maryport back into it, but was edged out 74-44 by Lewis Tilley (+40), giving the visitors an unassailable 3-1 lead.
Andrew Skidmore (+45) ended the match on a high for Maryport with a win in the final frame, defeating Mark Carruthers (+42) 60–29 to close the match at 3-2.
Golf Club move to joint top on 2 wins and 6 frames, tied with Maryport and United Club A, but sit second on frame difference. Maryport drop from first to third.
