Barrow put in one of their best performances of the season when they won 3-1 at Tranmere to halt their slide down the League Two table.
Three first-half goals provided the platform for the victory, which was even more merited as they played from the 64th minute with ten men.
Skipper Niall Canavan was sent off after being shown a second yellow card, and 13 minutes from the end goalkeeper Ben Winterbottom was taken off with a shoulder injury.
Regular choice Wyll Stanway came on to replace him and distinguished himself with one particularly outstanding save to maintain Barrow’s two goal cushion.
Barrow played particularly well in the first half, when they scored their three goals, and then defended resolutely after the break with everyone putting in a strong shift.
Ben Jackson started the goal rush on eight minutes and defender Charlie Raglan added the second 10 minutes later.
Travelling Barrow fans were ecstatic on 32 minutes when Isaac Fletcher made it 3-0. On too many occasions this season the Bluebirds have not been able to take the chances they created – and often gave away silly late goals.
They did concede on 50 minutes when former player Patrick Brough reduced the arrears for Tranmere but they couldn’t follow-up as Barrow, particularly when down to ten men, defended like terriers.
Although still 19th in the table Barrow are now seven points clear of the drop zone and have two home games coming up against Salford and Bristol Rovers.
