Whitehaven has announced another local signing.
The latest signing is prop forward Jackson Smith from NCL side Hensingham, after he completed a successful trial period during pre-season.
Smith, 18, has been another youngster who has been with the squad during the build-up to the new Championship campaign.
Having previously spent time with Hull FC, Smith has played for Hensingham this season in their first season at Division 2 of the former NCL pyramid as well as playing in the club’s successful Under-18s side.
Smith isn’t available for selection for this afternoon’s friendly at Barrow for which coach Anthony Murray has named a squad of 21, minus only recent recruit Xander Callander who has picked up an ankle injury.
Meanwhile, Barrow Raiders will include two trialists again when they take on Whitehaven in their second friendly at Craven Park’s Northern Competitions Stadium.
The pair scored points on Sunday when the Raiders opened their pre-season programme with a 50-24 home win over North Wales Crusaders.
Whitehaven will be playing their first game of pre-season but follow up next Sunday against Workington Town for the traditional Ike Southward Memorial Trophy.
The Raiders have named a squad of 24 and are likely to agree with Whitehaven that all can be used during the game.
On duty for Barrow will be: Alex Bishop, Luke Broadbent, Joe Bullock, Andrew Bulman, Matt Costello, Luke Cresswell, Fin Dutton-Rosconie, Charlie Emslie, Ryan Johnston, Ryan King, Dan Knott, Greg Richards, Tee Ritson, Ellis Robson, Trent Ruddy, Curtis Teare, Shane Toal. Brad Walker, Tom Walker, Steve Watson, Josh Wood, Seth Woodend, Trialist A, Trialist B.
The Whitehaven squad is: Marc Shackley, Ethan Bickerdike, Josh Blinkhorn, Brad Brennan, Jordan Burns, Dave Eccleston, Cole EWalker-Taylor, Ellison Holgate, Connor Holliday, Jack Kellett, Joe Lowe, Rio McQuistan, Lewis Brown, Jack Newbegin, Ellis Nixon, Jake Pearce, Jordan Thomson, Ciaran Walker, Mitchell Todd, Aaron Turnbull, Jay Weatherill.
