Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team had their first call out of 2026.
23 members of the volunteer team were called to Warnscale Bottom at around 5.50pm yesterday, January 5, after a lone walker slipped and fallen on the path near Gatesgarth, Buttermere.
The walker had broken their ankle.
The team said: “A full team callout was initiated, and the Team made their way down the valley. Fortunately the casualty was adjacent to a 4×4 track and the vehicles were able to drive to within 20m of the scene.
“The team administered analgesia, splinted the ankle and then transported the casualty back to the road where they were met by the ambulance service for onward transport to the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven.”
