Vehicles could be banned from outside a Barrow primary school at key times of day.
A temporary order was introduced as a trial at St George’s Primary School on School Street to address congestion and road safety concerns during drop-off and pick-up times.
Westmorland & Furness Council’s Furness Locality Board will now consider whether to make the ban of vehicles between 8.20am and 9am and between 3.10pm and 3.50 pm each day permanent.
Members, when they meet on Wednesday, will also be asked to consider introducing a six-month trial order for Barrow Island Community Primary School and Bram Longstaffe Nursery School.
The ban would be in effect between 8.20am and 9am and 3pm and 3.45pm.
Emergency vehicles and residents are exempt.
A report to the board said: “The scheme encourages travelling to school by walking and cycling or scooting and will in turn reduce the build-up of traffic outside the school gates, improve air quality and create a safer and more pleasant environment for everyone around school.
“A reliable highway network enables people, goods and services to be moved around the authority area promoting new business creation, economic growth and enabling people to thrive within their own communities.
“The School Street Initiative is important in supporting local communities and through the Council Plan, aims to promote Westmorland and Furness to be a great place to live.
“The main aims are to promote safer roads, reduce congestion, reduce vehicle pollution, enhance the environment for walking and cycling and support the community having a sense of place.”
