Seaton Rangers will be Cumbria’s representatives in the first round of the Challenge Cup, which is due to get underway this weekend.
They travel to St Helens tomorrow to take on the National Conference Premier Division side Thatto Heath Crusaders.
Neil Frazer, the Seaton coach, has only had his players back training this week after the Cumberland ARL season ended in October.
It was a campaign which ended in triumph as Seaton lifted the Cumberland Cup and the Top Four play-off final – a nice double on their return to the local competition.
Seaton will also look a bit different this season, too, with several players stepping up to Championship rugby with Whitehaven where Frazer is assistant coach to Anthony Murray.
“I think with the lack of training the lads are going to tire earlier than normal but I just want them to enjoy the experience and put the effort in.
“Thatto Heath are one of the better sides in the NCL Premier Division so it will be a test for our young lads,” he said.
Freezing weather has been forecast so there will be a pitch inspection in the morning before Seaton set off.
