
A Lake District hotel was temporarily closed after a Home Office raid found an illegal Chinese worker.
The Fisherbeck Hotel in Ambleside weas raided by Home Office officials and police on Monday after receiving intelligence about suspected illegal working at the venue.
Officers found one man of Chinese nationality working illegally inside the premises. He was arrested at the scene.
The hotel was issued with a temporary closure notice until a hearing at Barrow Magistrates Court.
As a result of the hearing on Wednesday, the hotel was handed a 12-month compliance order.
It means Immigration Enforcement officers will keep close tabs on the business through regular visits to ensure the premises is complying with immigration rules.
It also requires the business owner to provide immigration officers with employment documentation when requested.
The court heard how officers had raided the premises twice before, in January and April 2024, where a total of six illegal workers were identified and arrested.
Yatson & Co Ltd, the liable employer at the time, was issued with a £10,000 fine for failing to conduct relevant pre-employment checks.
