
It’s going to be yet another weekend when sport in Cumbria has to play second best to the weather.
The postponements started last night with the scheduled Northern League game between Carlisle City and West Auckland called off because of the Gillford Park pitch being frozen solid.
The two other Cumbrian clubs in the Northern League, scheduled to play today, were also forced to postpone their games because of the state of their pitches – Kendal Town v Shildon and Penrith v Newcastle Blue Star.
In the Wearside League Windscale were due to travel to Seaton Carew for a Shipowners Cup game but that was also called off.
Rugby union matches were also called off, with Penrith’s trip to Heath one of the early casualties, Keswick’s trip to Morpeth also was called off.
In the Counties 1 Cumbria all games were called off except Millom v Whitehaven and Egremont v Creighton.
Four games in the Cumberland County League have also been hit by the weather.
Leaders Maryport Athletic v Cleator Moor Celtis reserves; Keswick v Silloth; Aspatria v Cockermouth and Dearham v Windscale have been postponed.
To beat the weather two games two games will be played on the Lake College Astro turf – Cockermouth reserves v Whitehaven Miners Development and Workington juniors v Wigton.
In rugby league Seaton Rangers were given the go-ahead to travel to Thatto Heath for their first round Challenge Cup tie.
