A wild camper who had become separated from his companions was found asleep on a forestry track.
Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team was called out at around 4am on January 10 to Lowther Park, near Egremont.
Cumbria police had called the team and officers told the team that the camper had become separated in the Forestry England-owned plantation and could not be contacted.
Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team said: “The team leader made a full team callout to initiate a search and quickly located the camper asleep on a forestry track.
“He was recovered by team members and handed over to Cumbria police on scene.”
It was the team’s fourth call out of 2026, involved 24 members and lasted two hours and 54 minutes.
Later the same day, the team was called after a walker sustained an ankle injury near Ill Crag.
He was unable to weight bear so could not continue. The team was called at 1.55pm
Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team said: “The team leader quickly made a Full Callout to respond. Due to the remoteness of the casualty location, an air asset was requested but was unable to perform the rescue directly due to the cloud base.
“As a second best option, team members were uplifted to Lingmell Col and, with assistance from a nearby RAF team on training nearby, packaged and stretchered the walker off the hill to Wasdale Head, where members of his walking party transported him to hospital for further assessment.
“Thanks to the crew of Rescue 199 and to RAF Leeming for their help.
“We hope the walker makes a quick recovery from his injury.
“A very long day for some team members who started the day with a 4.30am callout and returned to base at 11.30pm on the second.”
