A 16-year-old has been arrested after police spotted a suspected drug deal in a Walney park.
Cumbria police officers were carrying out a day of action in the area on Saturday after residents had raised concerns about crime.
Officers were in Vickerstown Park and a drone had also been deployed.
Barrow police said: “Officers observed a male and female believed to be involved in a drug deal.”
The pair were stopped and searched and officers found a small amount of cannabis and an eight inch knife.
He was arrested and has since been charged with possession of cannabis and possession of a bladed article.
Officers also carried out a vehicle checkpoint on Central Drive. They stopped over 70 vehicles.
Barrow police said: “Drivers’ licences and insurance were checked, vehicles were given a safety once-over, and we’re pleased to say all drug wipes came back negative.
“That said, a number of vehicles weren’t quite up to scratch, resulting in tickets being issued for offences such as bald tyres and no MOT.”
Officers also seized two vehicles – one for having no insurance and no tax, and the other for having no insurance.
Drones were also deployed to target off‑road bikes being used illegally within the park and allotments in Vickerstown. No bikes or issues were identified on the day however further enquiries will be carried out into the issue.
