Barrow have announced another recruit in 24-year-old defender Joe Anderson from Sunderland for an undisclosed fee.
Anderson has signed an 18 month deal and is the third new face brought in by new manager Paul Gallagher.
Born in Stalybridge, Anderson spent nine years at Liverpool before crossing Stanley Park to join rivals Everton in 2016.
He went on to play over 100 games for Everton U18s and 21s and was captain of the latter whilst with the Toffees.
The young centre-half would then move to the Black Cats on a three-and-a-half deal with the then Championship side in the summer of 2023.
A productive loan at then League One side Shrewsbury Town, saw Anderson total 30 appearances for the Shrews and develop his game with a full campaign in men’s football.
He joins the Bluebirds after making seven appearances for Sunderland including a couple in last season’s promotion winning campaign.
Gallagher said: “He’s a dynamic defender who is comfortable on the ball and will add another option in our defensive ranks.
“Having played at Championship level with Sunderland before and in League One, he knows what it takes to perform at higher levels, and I am looking forward to getting to work right away with him on the training pitch.”
Anderson is available for Saturday’s trip to Crewe Alexandra and will wear squad number 22.
But there have also been some departures from Barrow with on-loan midfielder Michael Adu-Poku returning to parent club Watford. He made eight appearances for the Bluebirds.
Midfielder Regan Booty has also left Barrow for a permanent deal.
The 27-year-old, who joined National League outfit Boreham Wood on loan in November has now agreed a deal that will keep him there until the summer of 2008.
Booty had signed a three-year deal at Barrow when he joined last summer from Gateshead but after making 14 appearances earlier this season, he made the temporary switch to Meadow Park.
A third departure is striker John Shamalo who has had his contract mutually cancelled.
He joined The Bluebirds in January 2025 from non-league side Barton Rovers and enjoyed loans at Enterprise National League North/South sides Eastbourne Borough and Bedford Town over the past year.
