
Round 11 of the JJ’s Workington Pool league saw Harrington Legion take a big step towards retaining their league title as rivals JJ’s B faltered.
Legion, playing away at relegation-fighting Moss Bay A lost the initial frame of the night as Scott Messenger got the home side off to a winning start.
Unfortunately for Moss Bay the Legion responded well as Gavin Simpson started a seven-frame winning streak which helped them secure a 9-4 victory.
JJ’s B looked to keep up with the Legion at the top of the league but Cons Club B players were in superb form as captain Neil Henderson led the way as his team won nine of the opening ten frames.
The 10-3 victory for Cons B means they go third on frame difference to JJ’s B who remain in second place.
Station Road A and Waverley also remain one win behind the league leaders thanks to securing vital wins.
Waverly, fresh from their win over the league leaders Legion last week, were never troubled by Station Road C as Luke Elliot secured two wins in a 10-3 victory.
Station Road A were in a generous mood as they gave three frames away in fouls to JJ’s C who led 5-4.
However, a strong singles display from Tom Thompson and John Teasdale on the evening turned the tide as Station Road A came back to win 8-5.
Finally in the A league Pack Horse A moved up to sixth thanks to Lewis Tilley’s clearance in a final frame decider which gave them a 7-6 win over JJs A.
It’s as you were in the B League with Harrington Legion B and The Grapes set to go toe to toe until the end of the season for the title as promotion seems certain.
Steven Cook and Roger Denwood’s doubles frame ensured an 8-5 victory for the Grapes over Red House B whilst Phil Grisdale capped off a 9-4 win for Harrington Legion B over the Miners.
Station Road B leapfrogged Cons Club A thanks to an 8-5 victory.
Dave Tierney put the Cons Club 2-1 up but David Haigh levelled the game and Station Road didn’t look back winning four of the next five to set up a Lee Farragher and Will Young double win to clinch the match.
Bees Knees need to pick up points quickly to avoid relegation as Red House A defeated them 11-2.
In the Seaton derby it was the Pack Horse Pooligans who edged a close affair over Seaton Royal Oak.
At 5-5 it was the Pooligans who held their nerve as Gaz Messenger and Paul Hopper’s frame wins ensured an 8-5 victory.
In the C league WashHouse Miners continue their relentless march to the league title as they won their 11th consecutive match.
In another dominating performance it was Jimmy Reynolds and Sean Lee’s doubles win that meant the Miners are the first team in the league to win 100 frames as they ran out 10-3 winners over Grapes A.
Moss Bay B are the only team with a chance to catch the Miners as they also enjoyed an easy night with a 11-2 win at the Union Jack Club A.
Vinnie’s Bar had to reel off the last three frames to beat the Railway Club 7-6 and Craig Steele got the winning frame against the Roundabout as JJs E ran out 8-5 winners.
Finally, Union Jack Club B moved into third place as they edged JJ’s D 7-6.
