Pushing for top spot in Aspatria Pool League

Sun Inn B team kept pushing for the top spot in the Aspatria Pool League with another good win, this time against Wigton Park BC.

In-form Ben Scott got Sun Inn off to a good start, with Dan Long making it 2-0, before Brady Bell replied for Wigton Park with an excellent eight ball clearance.

It got interesting when Gareth Davenport pulled the match level for the Bowling Club team, but the Sun Inn B team then took control.

They won the last two singles and first double before the teams shared the last two frames leaving it 6-3 to Sun Inn B.

Sun Inn A remain top of the league after they comfortably beat Throstle B by eight frames to one.

David Thompson had an eight ball clearance in the singles, while George Twentyman was the only winner for Throstle B.

In the 3rd v 4th place match, Miners A travelled to Wigton to take on Throstle A and the visitors stormed into a winning 5-1 lead after the singles.

The Miners team also took two of the three doubles for the convincing 7-2 win.

Ryan Irving, Andrew Wilson, Craig Wilson and Barry Wilson won both their frames to help the Miners to a convincing victory.

In the local derby match in Silloth, Cumberland A took an early 2-1 lead against Cumberland B, with wins from Geoff Davies and Kane Lennon.

However, wins from Steven Mattinson, Ryan Orchard and Joe Thompson gave the B team a 4-2 lead on completion of the singles.

Cumberland B won the first double to secure the match, thanks to Ryan Orchard and  Steven Whitehead, before Cumberland A made the score respectable by winning the last two doubles. It finished 5-4 to the B team.

Luke Marshall-Dowell (Wigton Rugby Club)

Wigton Rugby Club flew into an early 4-1 lead when they entertained Letters B before Alex Barton,  with some fluent play, pulled one back for the visitors.

Louie Elliott and Luke Marshall-Dowell clinched the match by winning the first double, Stephen Rumney and Eddie Miller also won both games on the night, as the Rugby Club finished 6-3 winners.

Miners B played host to Sun Inn FC and Chris Hird gave them an early lead, before Zane Alderson pulled one back for the Sun Inn FC team.

Miners then took a good hold of the match, winning three of the next four frames to take a 4-2 lead into the doubles.

John Thompson and Zane Alderson won the first doubles for Sun Inn FC to bring the game back to 4-3, but Miners won the last two to take the match 6-3.
