Maryport Athletic will be looking to find their form and a winning routine again when they resume their Cumberland County League programme tomorrow.
The reigning Premier Division champions have been stuttering this season, dropping seven points in the first 10 games.
They lost their last League game 4-1 at home to Workington Juniors and at the weekend were knocked out of the Conway Cup by old rivals Unisun Athletic, who also beat them in the County Cup.
It’s no ‘gimmee’ tomorrow either as they host Mirehouse fresh from a narrow derby defeat at Whitehaven Miners.
Unisun Athletic are still unbeaten in the league with just a home draw with Aspatria the only a blot on their seven match record and with games in hand are well-placed to take the title.
They face an interesting trip to Wigton Harriers tomorrow as their hosts are the league’s draw specialists – six times in nine games, and one of them against Maryport Athletic.
Keswick were scheduled for four home games in a row, but have nothing to show from the first three.
They lost the first two and then Saturday’s Cumberland County League Premier Division clash with Workington Juniors was postponed.
After finishing 2025 on a high with a fine 2-2 draw at leaders Maryport Athletic they looked forward to the new year with renewed optimism.
But a 4-2 defeat by Aspatria was followed by a 4-1 loss to Mirehouse and after the Workington game was called-off because of the state of the pitch, are preparing to host Whitehaven Miners Social, cock-a-hoop after their win over Mirehouse.
Cockermouth earned themselves a place in the Conway Cup final against Unisun Athletic after a tense battle with Wigton Harriers at Highfield in their semi-final which ended 3-2 in their favour.
The Highfield side travel to Workington Juniors tomorrow to face a side who have burst into the title picture.
There’s a full programme of Division One fixtures: Cockermouth reserves v Dearham United; Northbank v Bransty Rangers; Whitehaven reserves v Silloth; Whitehaven Miners Development v Carlisle City Development; Windscale reserves v Unisun Athletic Development.
