Kendal Leisure Centre recently hosted a brilliant youth canoe polo tournament, bringing young paddlers together for a fast-paced afternoon of friendly competition, team-building, and loads of goals.
Players were welcomed from Penrith, Red Rose, Duddon, and Liverpool canoe clubs.
The tournament format kept everyone busy and involved, with teams split across three groups and a steady stream of matches throughout the afternoon.
Across the day, 15 matches were played involving eight teams, 38 players, and 64 goals — creating an energetic, supportive event that helps young paddlers level up quickly while having a great time.
For several young players in Cumbria, this was their first ever tournament, and for some it was even their first time playing canoe polo. Seeing new players throw themselves into the sport, grow in confidence, and enjoy the buzz of real games was a real highlight of the day.
Each team was assigned a coach to help them make the most of the tournament, and players also took on refereeing duties for other matches — providing a valuable learning opportunity and helping everyone understand the game from every angle.
Organisers thanked everyone who made the day run smoothly — players, parents, helpers, and everyone who mucked in with organising and timekeeping.
If young paddlers are curious about trying canoe polo or learning to kayak, Penrith, Red Rose, and Duddon canoe clubs all offer youth sessions and beginner kayaking opportunities at Penrith Leisure Centre, Kendal Leisure Centre, and Barrow Park Leisure Centre.
The next youth tournament is currently planned to take place at Penrith Leisure Centre on March 14.
