A West Cumbrian village road will close for two weeks for improvements.

The work on High Lowca Road, which runs from the A595 to the village near Whitehaven, will close from Monday, February 16.

Cumberland Council will be resurfacing the road and creating a new cycle route and pavement from the road at the start of the village to Ghyll Grove.

The work is being carried out as part of the Lowca NCN Route 72 Active Travel Scheme.

Work will last for around five weeks in total, subject to weather and site conditions.

A full road closure on High Lowca Road will be in place from Monday, February 16 until Friday February 27.

After February 27, work will be managed using temporary traffic lights.

Access for residents will be limited from 7am to 7pm, and traffic marshals will be on hand to assist residents in reaching their properties when possible.

Access for emergency services, pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained at all times, with marshals escorting those travelling on foot or by bike through the works area.

A drop-in event will be held on Monday, February 9 from 5pm to 7pm at Lowca Village Hall.

People who cannot attend the event can call the Highways Hotline on 0300 373 3736, quoting Lowca NCN Route 72 Improvements.
