Kendal Youth Darts Academy has hit the bullseye with a £2,500 boost from the county’s crime commissioner.
The academy, based at Kendal Town’s football ground, was given the cash from Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner David Allen’s community fund last year.
The cash was used to buy equipment including dartboards and light surrounds to help set up a club for young people aged eight to 18 to play the sport. Since it started, 28 young people have joined
Mr Allen visited the academy to see the young players in action.
He said: “It was fantastic to see all the young people attending, enjoying themselves and socialising.
“The clubhouse was packed with young people, parents and volunteers which was brilliant – it felt like a true community.
“Jemma Telford, who runs the academy, is clearly very passionate about programme, getting the kids involved and making it fun for everyone.
“Passion like this is what keeps clubs like these alive, and I commend her for her drive.
“This is what the community fund is all about – bringing people together, creating a stronger community and keeping our young people off the streets and out of trouble.
“For some, £2,500 may not seem like a lot of money but you can truly see the difference it makes to projects like the Kendal Youth Darts Academy and I’m so pleased to see how well it’s doing.
“My community fund will be opening again in the near future.”
