A second solar and wind-powered defibrillator has been installed in Workington.

The town council has installed the cabinet in Siddick this week.

The initiative builds on the success of the first cabinet installed in Barepot last year.

The council said it continued to work closely with North West Ambulance Service and Turtle Medical to deliver pioneering solutions for the benefit of people.

Cllr Michael Heaslip, chair of the environment committee, said: “The new cabinet forms part of the council’s ongoing work to improve access to life-saving equipment in each neighbourhood of the town while embracing innovative, environmentally friendly solutions.

“By harnessing both wind and solar energy, these defibrillator cabinets ensure 24/7 availability, even in locations without a reliable power supply.”

Megan Stephenson, community resuscitation engagement officer from the North West Ambulance Service, has been named Sustainable Community Defib Champion in the Turtle Medical Awards, thanks to her work with the town council.
