A trial date has been set in the case of a man who stands accused of deliberately driving into a pedestrian who was left in a critical condition.
Ricky Lee Wayne Murphy, 29, faces two charges which arise out of an incident on a residential road in the Longsowerby area of Carlisle on the mid-afternoon of Sunday, January 4.
One charge alleges that Murphy caused a man grievous bodily harm with intent.
A second charge alleges that Murphy caused serious injury to the man by dangerous driving.
Police said in the aftermath of the incident that a Fiat Scudo van had been in collision with a pedestrian on Prescott Road.
The pedestrian was left in a critical condition and he is said to remain in hospital.
A Great North Air Ambulance Service crew responded to the incident at just before 3pm.
At Carlisle Crown Court this afternoon, not guilty pleas were entered to the two criminal charges on behalf of Murphy, who was not present for the hearing.
Recorder Eric Lamb agreed that a date for a trial in front of a jury should be fixed.
This trial is due to start on Monday June 8 and, it is estimated, will last around five days.
A pre-trial review hearing is due to be heard at the crown court on March 3.
In the meantime, Murphy remains remanded in custody.
- Following the incident Murphy, of Ferguson Place, Carlisle, was originally arrested on suspicion of an attempted murder allegation which is no longer being pursued.
