Two men from Bradford have been jailed after a home in Kendal was burgled and a car taken.

Jack Alstead, 20, and Keegan Thackery-Holmes, 21, were each sentenced to 30 months in prison at Carlisle Crown Court for the crimes, which took place in the early hours of Friday December 12.

Alstead was also sentenced for an additional offence of possession of cannabis.

The court heard that police received a 999 call from the victim in the early hours, saying his home had been broken into and his car had been stolen while he was asleep.

He awoke to the sound of a car being started and driven away.

Police found the stolen car was travelling towards North Yorkshire.

North Yorkshire Police officers located and pursued the vehicle after it failed to stop.

The vehicle was abandoned shortly after.

Police carried out further enquiries which identified the suspects were travelling in another vehicle, which was subsequently stopped at 4am.

After a search of that vehicle, a key for the stolen vehicle was found and the occupants were arrested.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Baguley said: “Being burgled can be incredibly traumatic.

“We do not tolerate offences of this nature and continue to target burglars with Operation Themis.

“I would encourage victims of burglary to report it to police so we can continue to pursue offenders, like we have in this case.”
