Workington Town have announced the signing of Jack Ainley, a highly promising back-row forward who has been playing his amateur rugby with Kells.
In signing his first professional contract, and committed to Workington Town, he joins elder brother Ross at the Fibrus Community Stadium.
Town head coach Jonty Gorley said: ‘We were well aware of Jack’s potential so I invited him down to do pre-season with us, along with five other community players, as I do each season.
“Jack has really impressed me with his attitude to training and how he fitted into our professional environment, impressing me enough for me to offer him the opportunity to play in the Ike Southward Memorial Trophy game.
“He absolutely made the most of that opportunity as he was one of my top performers on the day playing in the back row.
“Jack is the most recent product of the highly successful Kells club, same as his brother Ross, Jamie Doran, Dom Wear, Mason Lewthwaite and Tyce Walmsley, who we already have with us at Town.
“I can’t wait to see and help Jack realise his undoubted potential and develop into a good professional player for Workington Town RLFC.
“We’re delighted to have him on board.”
Meanwhile Town have announced a special sponsors thank you event and fans forum at the Fibrus Community Stadium from 6pm on Thursday, February 26, in the Northern Competitions marquee.
It starts with an open training session to watch at 6pm, when children are welcome, and will be followed by questions and answers and interviews with club officials.
Town don’t have a fixture this weekend in the Championship.
