Two men have been sentenced after police found 9kg of cannabis in their vehicle’s boot.
Andrei Sarkov, 53, and Justas Liorancas, 29, both of Ipswich, were in the vehicle on the M6 on April 11 2025.
They were stopped by police due to the manner of driving and when speaking to the men, officers noticed a strong smell and searched the vehicle.
They found three bin bags in the boot filled with cannabis, which had the potential to be sold for £90,000.
The men were charged with possession with intent to supply a class B drug and a two-day trial was held at Carlisle Crown Court.
Sarkov was also sentenced for failing to appear at court.
On Wednesday, Sarkov was jailed for 67 weeks and Liorancas received a suspended sentence.
A further man is due to be sentenced for his role in April.
The offences were investigated by Westmorland and Furness’s Community and Serious Organised Crime team as part of Operation Alliance.
