Cleator Moor Celtic were the only Cumbrian side to play in the West Lancashire League’s Premier Division when they lost 5-2 at Blackpool Wren Rovers.
That represented a good effort by the West Cumbrians as they fielded a very young side and were in the game until late on.
Rovers, particularly effective at home, made a flying start with goals from Alfie Tomlinson and Joe Preston in the first six matches – both which might have been better defended.
But then Celtic came back and were the better side for a good 20 minute spell in which Leo Brennan pulled one back from a well delivered cross by Zack Benson Lester.
Liam Wernam made it 3-1 top the hosts before half-time but Celtic finished the half strongly and continued on the offensive after the re-start.
Leon Dymtrowski pulled one back after 57 minutes and almost got them level soon afterwards when the home keeper made a fine save turning his effort onto the bar and to safety.
Wren Rovers came back strongly in the closing stages and confirmed the win with goals from Cormack Murray and Ric Seear.
Some of the Celtic team played for the club’s Under-18s on Sunday to suggest the future is in good hands.

Millom’s trip to Astley and Buckshaw United; Whitehaven’s game at Burscough Richmond and Milnthorpe Corinthians home game with leaders Eagley were among the fixtures postponed.
