
In the JJ’s Workington Pool A league Cons Club B rescued their title challenge with a last frame decider against Moss Bay A.
Despite Moss Bay languishing at the bottom of the table they started the match in fine form with Paul Holliday helping to put his team 5-2 ahead.
In a race to seven frames it was a great start but the Cons took the next three frames to level at 5-5.
Then Moss Bay’s Sam Williamson put his team into a 6-5 advantage, with just one more frame needed for a surprise,
But the Cons Club came through as Gavin Parkinson grabbed the equalising frame to set up Frank Lucas and his clearance kept Cons B joint top of the league with a 7-6 victory.
With Harrington Legion A v JJ’s B postponed Station Road A’s game in hand was against a depleted Waverley team.
However the Waverley got off to a good start with Paul Graham clinching the opener before Station Road’s Andrew Henderson helped fire his team to a 4-2 lead.
Waverly responded well to level at 5-5 but Station Road clinched the 11th frame to set up Tom Thompson to make a fantastic clearance and lead to his side’s 7-6 victory to go joint top,
JJ’s A kept their slim title challenge alive as they took on their club counter parts JJ’s C.
There was nothing to pick between the teams when the C team’s Johnny Martin made it 3-3 but that was their last ray of hope as JJ’s A dug deep to reel off the last seven frames with Steven O’Hagan capping-off a 10-3 victory.
Pack Horse A remain 7th after a comprehensive victory over Station Road C in which they were in fine potting form on the way to an unassailable 7-2 lead, It was eventually capped off by Karl Newton who ensured his team went away with the 8-5 win.
In the B League the Grapes kept their slender lead at the top of the table as they faced the Pack Horse Pooligans.
The Grapes’ Sam Peel gave his team a 4-2 lead and they kept on the offensive throughout the doubles to lead 6-3.
It was talisman Steven Cook who secured the key frame for the Grapes to win 7-6 and keep their two-point advantage over Harrington Legion B who beat Station Road B 7-6.
The Bees Knees have given themselves every chance to avoid relegation as they secured their second victory in a row. They faced Miners who have been struggling to find a League win and their fortunes didn’t improve as the Bees’ Jack Malone was in top form, winning three frames to secure a 9-4 victory.
Red House A slipped up in their promotion challenge after defeat at the hands of Cons Club A. They had looked good to secure the win as they went ahead 5-3 but the Cons battled back to level at 6-6.
It was eventually left to Chris Black to give Cons Club the final frame decider and the 7-6 win.
In the C league second-placed Moss Bay B faced JJ’s E, who were lying third, with both needing a win to try and secure the second promotion place.
It was Moss Bay ‘s Dan Swinburn that helped shoot his team into a 3-0 lead which was extended to 5-2 before JJS fought back.
Eventually Lee Cunningham levelled the game at 5-5 but Moss Bay edged ahead again with two frames left. But they were denied as Craig Steele levelled the game to set up his team-mate Josh Whalen to deliver the winning frame and a 7-6 victory for JJs E.
The win for JJ’s meant they are now joint second as the WashHouse Miners continue to sail off into the distance, this time defeating the Roundabout 9-4.
The Grapes B made it three wins in a row, as despite being 2-0 down to the Union Jack Club A it was Alan Cavanagh who started an eight-frame winning run that ensured the Grapes won the match 9-4.
Union Jack Club B put last week’s defeat behind them as they got back to winning ways with a 7-6 win over the Railway Club to cement 5th place in the table.
