A man found dead in a field on the outskirts of Penrith had been reported missing by his partner hours earlier, an inquest has heard.
HM Coroners Office and Inquest Court in Workington was told this morning that a dog walker found 39-year-old David Gordon Ogilvie dead on February 7 this year.
An inquest into the death of Mr Gordon, of Driffield, East Riding, was opened by coroner Dr Nicholas Shaw.
During a short hearing, Dr Shaw noted that Mr Ogilvie was discovered in a field opposite Carleton Hall Farm, on the outskirts of Penrith.
The location is next to the main A686 road linking the town with the village of Langwathby.
“He had been reported missing by his partner,” said Dr Shaw. “He was found the following morning by a dog walker.”
Formal identification of Mr Ogilvie was made by a police constable based on comparison with photographs and known tattoos, the court heard.
“The death is clearly unnatural and therefore an inquest will be required,” added Dr Shaw.
The hearing was adjourned, pending further investigations, to a provisional resumption date of April 28.
