Members of Workington Reds senior squad had run-outs last night for the club’s Under-23s side who blitzed Winstanley Warriors 8-0.
Josh Galloway, Steven Swinglehurst and Josh Palmer were all in the starting line-up, along with recent signing Harry McLinden who still has to make his first team debut.
Both Palmer and McLinden finished the game with a brace each while it was Galloway who scored the first and had an assist in others.
Galloway and Swinglehurst were making their Lancashire League debuts as over-age players.
Galloway started the ball rolling after just six minute with a well worked goal, created by Zach Martin’ and Dan Hill which he finished well.
It was 3-0 before half-time with McLinden finishing well after latching onto Rob Davidson’s through ball and Palmer made no mistake after being set up by Galloway.
But just before the break both sides were reduced to 10 men.
A dangerous tackle by Martin on Winstanley skipper Jamie Derbyshire earned him a straight red. But Derbyshire’s retaliation earned him a second yellow and an early shower as well.
Reds completely dominated the second-half and were able to add five more to their total.
Ex-Queen of the South forward McLinden scored his second from close range after good work by Palmer on 59 minutes.
Owen Johnston made it 5-0 when he hooked he ball home after it had been spilled by keeper Jamie Michaelides.
Palmer added his second after another right-wing assist from Galloway and in the closing stages Zach Benson-Lester helped himself to a couple.
The first was a fine header and the second a tidy 15-yard finish after more good work from Galloway.
