The annual Cumbria in Bloom competition is now open to all gardeners – and this year, there will be a special award in memory of the longest serving member of Cumbria in Bloom, Alan Heath.
From schoolchildren to international businesses based in Cumbria, the invitation to take part in the competition is as wide as the categories, which individuals, community groups and businesses can enter.
This year, there will be the Cumbria in Bloom Trophy for Outstanding Contribution in any category in memory of Alan, who died last year.
Chair of Cumbria in Bloom, Keith McIntosh, said: “Alan was our vice president and longest serving member of the committee, and a gardener for over 80 years, as well as the parks and cemeteries manager for Allerdale council for many years.
“Alan was also one of the founder members of Cumbria in Bloom, and we were delighted when Workington Town Council offered to sponsor this new trophy in recognition of a life dedicated to horticulture.
“We hope the new trophy in Alan’s memory will inspire gardeners and community groups across the county to enter this year’s Cumbria in Bloom.”
Full details of all the categories and entry forms are now available from the Cumbria in Bloom website https://cumbria-in-bloom.org.uk/
