Carlisle United have appointed the experienced Andy Lowe as their new Academy Manager.

In a 25-year career in senior leadership and management he has had roles at professional football Academies, including Middlesbrough, Wrexham AFC, Hartlepool United, The FA, and Durham University.

During his time as Academy Manager at Wrexham and Hartlepool, he led the successful establishment of a new EFL football academy from the ground up.

This included strategic planning, staffing, infrastructure development, coaching, curriculum framework, Academy Performance Plan, and performance structures, all aligned with the EPPP framework, displaying expertise in developing high-performing environments.

He was a guest of the EFL at the 2025 Championship play-off final for his Academy leadership success and has strong working relationships with the FA, EFL, PGAAC, LFE, PFA, Premier League representatives and Academy Managers across the full spectrum of the game.

Before becoming an Academy Manager, Lowe held a full-time role as County Coach Developer for the FA, leading and managing an experienced team of Coach Developers, while delivering Coach Education courses up to UEFA level.

Lowe said: “This is exciting because there is a very well-established academy at Carlisle United that’s been going for a lot of years, produced players, and it’s got a really good reputation.

“Meeting Marc Tierney, the owners, the board and Tom Piatak very recently, I was really impressed by their passion and determination to develop young players.

“I had an amazing talk with Tom for the second-round interviews  – his vision for the club and vision for the future are brilliant. That alignment and that passion were really evident, and it aligns with mine.”
