A West Cumbrian pub is offering up to 10 people the chance to have dinner on them.
The Galloping Horse, at Harrington, near Workington, has created Save a Seat to reach out to community members who are feeling isolated – or may simply need cheering up.
Older people living in Cumbria are at risk of social isolation – a report by Cumberland Council last year said there were many barriers that stopped people from getting together.
The Galloping Horse wants to address this in its neighbourhood by inviting 10 people to dinner – and staff hope that if they are strangers when they sit down, they’ll be friends by the end of the meal.
The offer is also open to those who may be going through a tough time and need something to look forward to.
A Galloping Horse spokesman said: “We know there are many people who don’t get that social interaction that many of us take for granted.
“The Galloping Horse is a true community pub and we want to extend an invitation to anyone who wants to visit us – maybe for the first time – socialise with others and have a nice time.
“Everyone is always welcome at the Galloper, but we know that sometimes that first step over the threshold is the hardest.
“Our Save a Seat event takes that pressure off and allows people to have time out in company.
“Our main aim is to put a smile on people’s faces – and serve them delicious food, of course!”
The first event will be held on March 29 and people are invited to nominate themselves or others to attend.
