Whitehaven battled to a hard-fought 20-20 draw with Midlands Hurricanes at the Ortus Rec to move onto three points for the season.
There was a dramatic end when Midlands went for a penalty from half-way to win the game but it fell short.
Sully Medforth had earlier hauled his side level in the 70th minute after Whitehaven had fought back strongly from a poor start to lead 20-18.
So poor had the opening eight minutes been that Haven had conceded two tries, but fortunately neither of the touchdowns from Owen Restall and Aidan McGowan had been converted.
After 21 minutes Haven were back in it when Connor Holliday got on the end of a Ciaran Walker kick. The subsequent conversion from Walker pulled them to within two points.
But Havn were to go in at half-time trailing 12-6 as the Hurricanes went in for a third unconverted try by Tom Wilkinson on 31 minutes.
It was the visitors who scored first after the change-round with Toby Warren crossing on 52 minutes and this time Medforth adder the extras.
At 18-6 there was work to do for Haven and the young side responded superbly and by the 67th minute they were ahead by two points.
On loan centre Seth Woodend made it two tries in two games, touching down after a great run. Walker converted.
Then four minutes later Ethan Bickerdike got on the end of a Walker grubber and the conversion put them level.
A Walker penalty edged Haven ahead for the first time in the game but then came Medforth’s equalising penalty – and to the great relief of the home fans he missed with his long-range attempt to win it.
