John Peel Darts League almost wrapped up

With the John Peel Darts League nearing completion and the title sewn up, the champions Aspatria Bowling Club made the trip to Wigton Park.

Mark Sloan, Alison Edgar, David Graham with a 177, Stew Reynolds, Eddie Carrick and Tim Workman all won their singles to make it 6-0 and the win was secured after the first double won by Sloan and Ged Stockdale.

Park managed to win two doubles to make the score 10-4 on the night, with notable scores for the Park from Shaun Little 106 Off, Tony Steven 106 Off and Stuart Potts 108 Off.

With Silloth Bowling Club not in action Tam O’Shanter closed the gap on second place to two points with a 12-2 victory at home to Bridge End A.

Jack Musgrave got Bridge off to the perfect start beating John Duncan but from there the Tama won five singles and all the doubles to secure the match. Norman Tolson, Colin Armstrong, Geoff Ramshaw, Richard Henderson and Joseph Robson were all in great form.

Jack Musgrave, M Musgrave and A Tiffen took the first treble to win the second point for the Dalston side.

Sun Inn A finished their league campaign with a 7-7 draw at home to Red Dial Arrows. Zane Alderson with a 111 checkout beat Jamie Glencross but Kieron Little then beat Matty McCartney to make it 1-1.

Jayden Faulder beat Wayne Southward to make it 2-1 to the Sun and then Mally Graham made it 3-1.

Woody Lukeman, making his debut for the Arrows, got the better of Jonny Taylor and then Matt Glencross, with a maximum 180, made it 3-3 as he beat Tom Cobley.

Jamie Glencross, with a 116, and Little took the first double followed by Southward and Shaun Glencross to make it 7-3 to the Arrows.

Taylor and Cobley made it 7-5 before the Sun won both trebles to finish all square at 7-7.

There was another 7-7 draw in the game between Grey Goat A and Blackamoor were there were big off scores from Steven Ostle (160) and Jonny Bowe (120).

Dan Stobbart, Ostle and Harry Stagg had wins for the Goat while for Blackamoor it was Luke Hetherington, Greg Bullock and David Carr who made it 3-3.

Alan Carr and Bullock made it 3-5 followed by David Carr and Hetherington making it 7-3 to the Wigton side.

Goat, though, battled back with Ostle and Harry Stagg making it 7-5 and then winning both trebles to tie the match.

It was a debut to remember for 14-year-old Harry Stagg winning all four points available.

Wigton Bowling club confirmed that the Letters B would be relegated with an 8-6 win over the Aspatria side.

Scott Stirzaker 140 off, Duggie James and Graham Metcalf won for the Bowling Club and Wayne Iredale, Bob Graham and Sam Swatts replied for the Letters making it 3-3.

James Turnbull and Owen Pattinson made it 5-3 to the Letters but they lost the next two doubles to go 7-5 down with James and George Moore 102 checkout,  and then Michael Hill & Graham Metcalf recording the wins. Moore, Hill and Chris James secured the victory in the final treble.

Jovial Sailor went 2-0 down against Sun Inn C, who were still looking for their first points of a tough season in Division One as Lewis Fisher and Tommi Allan won their games.

Mike Winthrop and Ali MacMillan made it 2-2 before Ben Allan then put the Aspatria side back in front. However L MacMillan, with a 142 off, made it all square.

All three doubles went to the Sailor to secure the victory and despite the Sun winning both trebles the matches finished 9-5 and the Aspatria side have one week left to avoid a season’s whitewash.

In Division Two the race for the title goes into the final week as The Crown beat Hare and Hounds 12-2 to remain a point clear at the top with promotion guaranteed. George Studholme and Jake Bennett earned the points for the Hounds.

Keeping up the pressure and themselves guaranteed promotion are the Sun Inn B who beat Caldbeck’s Oddfellows 9-5,

Zak Ostle, Shane Ostle and A Pattinson were winners for the Oddfellows but Ryan Fisher, Adam Palmer and Graham Hewitt, Mark Harris and Palmer who made it 5-3 to the Sun.

The Oddfellows again levelled the match through A Potts and S Ostle making it 5-5 but Fisher and Kenneth Bowes took the last double to make it 7-5.

Then Harris got them off to a flyer with a 110 in the trebles and alongside Palmer and Hewitt they secured the win.

Jobby Dunn, Tony Quinnand& Bowes won the final treble, too, with a cheeky Bull finish From Dunn.

 Bridge End B secured third place with a 9-5 win at home against Grey Goat B after the Baggrow side had taken a 5-1 lead. Liz Humphries was the sole single winner for the Bridge End.

Eddy Miller 136 off, Will Jackson, M Dodds, Frazer Sealby and Cody Elliot had seemingly put the Goat on their way to victory.

However, a fine comeback from the Dalston side saw them win all the doubles and trebles – Les Davidson with 120 off in the final treble.

The Joiners Arms from Newton Arlosh hosted Southend Social and it was the home side that came out on top.

Linden Wilson again won his singles followed by Cam Jackson, who hit a maximum 180. Mark Beaty also had a maximum 180, while Joe Graham got off with 120 but still lost the leg to Laura Tweeddale. Neale Wilson and Dom Harrison made it 5-1 after the singles.

Fiona Dorward and Brian McGarvie and Emma and Julie McGarvie won two doubles for the Carlisle side which meant it finished 9-5 to the Joiners.

Bolton lost 8-6 to Rosley who will finish fourth as a result.

Robert Cockburn and Christine Johnston won singles for the Bolton Lions but Robert Wharton, George Cross, J. Henderson and S. Taylor made it 4-2 to Rosley. 

Del Dalton and Henderson took the second double and Rosley won both trebles to secure the victory.

Letters A also beat Wellington 8-6 with Neil Falcon, Paul Broome and Ricky Holiday putting the Aspatria side 3-0 ahead. Wellington came back through Carl Knox, Kath Knox and Paul Scragg to make it 3-3.

Red Dial Sparrow’s captain Xenon Charters 40th birthday was a nightmare on the dart board.

Falcon and Broome took the opening double, while Arron Jackson and Carl Knox made it 5-5 Marcus Hamilton and Rod Steele took the final double to make it seven before victory was secured.

Red Dial Sparrows and Wheatsheaf drew 7-7. Gary Armstrong, with a 110 off as he beat Harvey Harrison and Dec Harrison with a 120 checkout for the Wheatsheaf were the highlights.

It was a tough night for Sparrows captain Xenon Charters, who had a nightmare performance on his 40th birthday, which cost them the win.
