Cumbria’s first ever rage room will open for one day only in Carlisle next month.
Frustrated by your computer? Fed up of slow wi-fi? The rage room will allow you to grab a baseball bat and take out your pent-up anger on old tech.
It has been launched by Fibrus Broadband and will be held in a secret location in the city on Wednesday April 1, with sessions from 4pm.
The free experience has been created to give people a safe and satisfying way to let off some steam, particularly anyone frustrated by broadband provider increasing prices in the middle of their contracts.
Rage rooms have become a popular activity in cities such as Newcastle, where people enjoy smashing bottles, TVs and computers to relieve stress.
The experience is being delivered in partnership with specialists Smash Space, which runs a successful rage room in Newcastle, so you can let rip in a safe and controlled environment.
Rage or smash rooms started in Japan in the late 2000s and have since grown in popularity around the world.
Participants spend around 15 minutes inside a specially prepared room smashing items.
The activity is strictly for adults only, full safety gear and a briefing will be provided by expert staff, and all items are carefully prepared for the experience.
The event will also highlight how Fibrus Broadband do things differently. The Northern Ireland based firm, which is continuing to roll out full fibre broadband across Cumbria, reiterated its promise of zero mid-contract price hikes in the wake of significant industry price rises by the likes of BT, EE, Plusnet and Sky, which come into force in April.
Colin Hutchinson, group managing director of Fibrus, said: “Let’s be honest – few things make people want to smash something more than their broadband provider suddenly hiking the price halfway through a contract.
“At Fibrus, we believe customers deserve better than that, which is why we guarantee no mid-contract price hikes.
“But if you’ve been stung by other providers in the past, a visit to the rage room might be the perfect way to let off a bit of steam.”
A spokesman for Smash Space said: “Rage rooms give people a chance to release stress, frustration or just have a bit of fun in a safe environment.
“Whether you’ve had a tough week at work, want a unique activity with friends or simply fancy trying something new, a rage room is all about letting go for a few minutes. Come along, give it a try and find out how good it is to let off some steam.”
Applications are now open and close at 5pm on Monday March 16.
