From Borough Park and on the road to Stamford Bridge – that’s the route defender Tyler Magliore has taken over the last two months.
For his Port Vale giant-killers will be heading to Chelsea on Easter weekend in the quarter final of the FA Cup. It’s only the second time in their history that the club has reached this stage of the competition.
Magliore played eight times for the Reds after he was Billy Barr’s first signing, with his last appearance at FC United in a 2-2 draw on January 13.
After initially going on trial to a Scottish Championship side he joined Port Vale under his former Northampton manager Jon Ryan.
The 27-year-old Magliore, who played under Barr with Blackburn Under-23s, played 97 minutes in last week’s 1-0 win over Bristol City and then came on at half-time on Sunday in the 1-0 win over Sunderland.
Magliore was a class act at the Reds, and it was only a question of time before he achieved his target and got back into the EFL.
Barr said: “He’d been released by Northampton in League One and he was always good enough to get back to that level.
“That’s how we got him by suggesting he could improve his fitness and showcase his ability while he was with us. And he did.”
