Steady scoring from Bryan Walker won competitive frame for only Golf Club success.

Division One leaders Station Road Club produced another authoritative performance this week in the L&L Property Contractors Snooker League.

They defeated Division Two’s Workington Golf Club 4–1 to strengthen their grip at the top of the table.

Tom Thompson set the tone for the home side in the opening frame, controlling the scoring phases against Mark Cowan and pulling clear in the latter exchanges to secure a solid 56–21 victory.

Darren Lawson then doubled Station Road’s advantage with a composed display against Mark Brasted, taking the frame 48–34 to put the League leaders firmly in control at 2-0.

The Golf Club responded in the third frame as Bryan Walker edged a competitive battle with Chris Hunter.

Walker’s steady scoring and tactical play saw him grind out a 49–47 black ball win, clawing a frame back for the visitors.

However, Station Road quickly restored their authority in the fourth as John Teasdale produced a controlled performance to defeat Lewis Tilley 65–40, ensuring the match result at 3-1.

In the last Kevin Kirkham rounded off a strong evening for the home side with the standout contribution of the night.

Kirkham crafted a break of 39 on his way to a confident 60–36 victory over Simon Frazer to seal a convincing 4–1 Station Road triumph.

The result keeps Station Road firmly at the summit of the Division One table on 51 points, continuing their title push, while Workington Golf Club sit fourth on 32 points in a very congested Division Two table.

Whitehaven’s Rack Shack secured a valuable 3–2 victory at Maryport Social in a closely fought all-Division Two encounter that swung back and forth throughout the evening.

The visitors struck first as Phil Denvir produced a composed display to defeat Ben Scott 65–37, taking early control of proceedings.

Rack Shack extended their lead in the second frame when Neil Dougherty proved too strong for Andrew Scott, recording a comfortable 59–2 win to move the visitors two frames ahead.

Maryport began their fightback in frame three, where Andrew Sharp steadied the ship with a confident 58–31 victory over Lee Dougherty to pull one back for the home side.

The comeback gathered momentum in the fourth as Stuart Shepherd delivered one of Maryport’s best performances of the night, cruising to a 62–14 win against Adam Morilla to level the match at 2-2.

With the contest finely poised, the deciding frame went the way of Rack Shack as Chris McKelvey held his nerve in a tense final encounter against Andrew Skidmore, edging the frame 64–47 to secure an overall 3–2 victory for the Whitehaven side.

The narrow success keeps Rack Shack at the top of Division Two on 35 points, while Maryport Social are two places below on 32 points.

In the week’s third fixture, Workington Legion produced a resilient performance to claim a 3–2 victory over United Club B in another evenly contested all-Division Two fixture.

The home side made the perfect start as Dan Hallam edged a tight opening frame against David Petre.

Both players traded scoring opportunities, but Hallam held his composure at the business end to secure a 60–56 win.

Legion doubled their advantage in the second frame when Adam Hodgson delivered a controlled display to defeat Stephen Jackson 65–43, putting the hosts firmly in command at 2-0.

United B responded in frame three through Shane Tallentire who overturned an early deficit to defeat Simon Tootle 51–26, reducing the arrears to 2-1 and keeping the visitors within touching distance.

Jordan Ferguson restored Legion’s cushion in the fourth frame however, with a strong performance against Andrew Carter, controlling the scoring exchanges to run out a 55–23 winner for an unassailable 3-1 Legion lead.

United B did claim the final frame through Adam Sowden, however, to end just one adrift at 3-2.

The win provides Workington Legion with a welcome boost even though they remain at the bottom of Division Two, now on 15 points while United Club B missed the opportunity to top the table but still maintain a second place on 34 points.

Finally, Workington Veterans Club delivered a composed and professional away performance to defeat Workington Conservative Club 4–1, avenging last week’s Cup defeat against their opponents in the process.

The visitors struck first through Mark Tatton, who produced a solid display to overcome Richard McCarthy 68–39, giving the Veterans an early advantage.

Kevin Basnett then extended the lead in frame two with a typically controlled performance against Alan Moore, securing a 62–46 victory.

The home side responded in the third frame, however, as Brian Kendall got the Conservative Club on the board with a determined 45–36 win over Paul Johnston, offering the hosts a glimmer of hope.

The Veterans quickly regained control, however, as Mark Tunstall produced a composed effort to defeat Ryan Barker 59–36, restoring the two-frame cushion and ensuring the visitors of the match win at 3-1.

As the last frame also went in the favour of the Vets Club a confidence inducing 4-1 victory was recorded for the battling Division One outfit.

The victory keeps Workington Veterans Club in with a chance of avoiding the drop from Division One on 38 points, while Workington Conservative Club sit only one point above their opponents on 39.
