A Shark against a Swan sounds an uneven battle, even in the Maryport Pool League!

But league leaders Sun Inn Sharks suffered their first defeat of the season when they went down at home 4-3 to the Swan Inn.

Swan struck first when Mark Mattocks took the first frame but David Wilson bit back for the Sharks, working hard to win his frame for 1-1.

Matty Little then glided Swan back in front before Ryan Bedford again showed the Sharks had teeth by putting them back on level terms.

The first double went to Swan’s Gareth Pattinson and Matty Little but once again Mel Scott and Ryan Bedford were able to make it all square.

In the deciding double Gareth and Simon Pattinson showed they were no ugly ducklings as they came out on top to inflict a first defeat of the season on the tamed Sharks.

Butchers A continued their fine start to the season to move joint top with a 4-3 victory away to Elbra A.

George Close, Lee Volkearts and Kevin Gartland were their singles winners and the points were andecured when Greg Norman and Kevin Gartland took the second double.

Sun Inn Ballers took on Maryport Rugby League Club A and were swiftly up against it as Doc Holliday won the first frame for the visitors.

Gary Miller made it 1-1 for the hosts before the Rugby League club won three on the bounce to secure the win.

Lee Bowness, Brian Patterson and a double success by Craig Thompson and Patterson ensured a bad night for the Ballers, who took the last two consolation double, but the match ended 4-3 to the Rugby club.

Sun Inn Cannons travelled to Grasslot to take on the Welfare and took a 3-0 lead via Lewis Fisher, Tommi Allan and Jordan Falcon.

Grasslot, however, never gave up and Trevor Bethwaite won the last single to make it 3-1 and Keith Anderson then struck with an 8 ball finish to win the first double.

Lee Ismay and Ricky Shearman then tied the game leaving it to the in-form Bethwaite and Anderson to take the last and seal the comeback victory at 4-3 and make it a sorry night all round for the three Aspatria teams from the Sun.

Maryport Rugby League Club B hosted Elbra B with Tyler Beales being the sole point winner for the home side as it ended 6-1.

Roger Rivers, Ian Frizzle and Dan Long won their singles and then Elbra dominated the doubles.

The Bowling Club beat Elbra C 6-1 with Paul Kirkbride, Mike McCallig, Dave Edwards and Wayne King all in fine form. Luke Nicholson and Dave McCracken won the consolation last double for Elbra.

Glasson Rangers took a 2-0 lead through Cam Stuart and Kieran Hughes at home to Maryport Social. Then it was the turn of Dean Petre, who had been 100% in his singles from five previous games but that was ended by Ryan Ismay to make it 2-1.

Andrew Egan tied it by winning the last single and then Ismay was the man of the match, taking part in two doubles and winning both, to give Maryport Social a 4-3 win.

Sun Inn, Dearham hosted Butchers B and it was Callum Casson who took the first frame for the home side, followed by Danny Dryden making it 2-0.

Bottom of the table Butchers B then took the next two to level the match but Dearham then showed their quality by winning all three doubles.

Blake Miller and Taylor Manchester took the first, Adam Short and Jack Basnett supplied the match winning point and the final double was wrapped-up by Dryden and Manchester for a 5-2 victory.
