The Northern League has been hit by a late-season resignation by one of its Division One clubs.
West Allotment Celtic were unable to raise a team for their trip to Whitley Bay a week after a similar outcome for their home match with the same opposition.
After the second postponement the club posted that it been due to some last minute player withdrawals.
Celtic later confirmed that they were resigning from the Northern League but insisted the club would continue to function lower down the football pyramid.
The big question now is how much it will affect those clubs who have played them already this season.
Whitley Bay won’t suffer any loss of points as their two games were both postponed.
Celtic have pulled the plug with just nine games to play. They were sitting bottom with four wins and four draws all they had to show from 29 fixtures.
Cumbria’s three clubs will now be wondering how it will leave them in the table when points will be deducted accordingly from matches with Celtic.
Carlisle City have beaten them twice so will suffer, losing six points; Penrith have only played them once and drew so will lose just the one point while Kendal beat them once and were due to play them on March 28, losing three points.
That cancellation of a home fixture for Kendal was on Non League Day and will probably mean they lose around £7,000.
