
Firefighters spent around fived hours tackling a house blaze in a north Cumbrian village.
Crews from Longtown Fire Station and Carlisle West Fire Station were called out at around 4.55pm yesterday, Thursday March 19 to Blackford, north of Carlisle.
Longtown Fire Station said: “Arriving approximately nine minutes from first call, Longtown were confronted with a building which was well alight.”
A single resident of the property had already managed to escape the fire and was treated for smoke inhalation by the fire service and North West Ambulance Service.
Longtown Fire Station added: “Initial fire firefighting actions were undertaken to try and prevent additional fire spread, including to an attached dwelling.”
Crews from Brampton, Carlisle East and Penrith, plus the water bowser from Maryport and support appliance from Barrow were also requested to attend the scene.

Longtown Fire Station said: “Crews were in attendance until approximately 10pm by which time the fire had been extinguished with serious damage limited to one property only.”
Cumbria police and Cumberland Council provided traffic support during the incident.
