Barrow Raiders focus on return to Championship rugby

Barrow Raiders are fully focused on a return to Championship rugby on Sunday following their exit from the 1895 Cup.

They travel to the South Leeds Stadium to take on Hunslet after last week’s battling Cup exit 36-10 at an impressive Broncos.

Paul Crarey will be hoping that his side can maintain their strong start to the season after picking up four wins from their five league outings as they currently sit third behind the Broncos and Widnes.

Hunslet were the Championship whipping boys last season and when they met Barrow last in June it finished 58-0 to the Cumbrians.

They look stronger this year and although they lave lost four of their five games are still in credit on points scored – 114 to 111 – largely due to a 42-6 win at Rochdale.

The Doncaster trio of Bureta Faraimo, Isaac Misky and French International prop forward Gadwin Springer have joined the Parksiders on a week’s loan.

Faraimo and Misky are familiar faces at the South Leeds Stadium, but are joined for the first time by the former Catalan Dragons and Castleford Tigers star Springer.

All three go into contention for Sunday’s home clash against Barrow Raiders along with that Leeds Rhinos duo, Tom Nicholson-Watton (prop) and Zak Lloyd (back row forward) who have joined the Parksiders again on a week’s loan.

The 21-man Barrow squad sees Jarrad Stack, Shane Toal and Tom Walker come in for this weekend’s game, as does forward Harvey Makin, who has made a short-term loan from Wigan.

Luke Broadbent, Aiden Doolan and captain Ryan Johnston all sit this one out.

  • Barrow squad: Archer, Bishop, Bullock, Costello, Cresswell, Emslie, King, Knott, Makin, Richards, Ritson, Robson, Ruddy, Stack, Teare, Toale, B Walker, T Walker, Watson, Wood, Woodend.
  • Hunslet: Jowitt, Harrop, Agoro, Gaskell, Abram, Hallas, Gilmore, Simpson, Battye, Berry, Whittel, Watson, Corbett, Carr, Turner, Graham, Misky, Faraimo, Nicholson-Watton, Lloyd, Springer.
