Emergency services were called out after concerns were raised about two people at sea.

Two people had been spotted inflating a boat with a small outboard engine and heading out from Harrington, near Workington, yesterday, Saturday March 21.

A short while after launch, a sea mist rolled in.

Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team said: “Our first informant lost sight of the boat in the mist and became concerned, so called 999 for the Coastguard.

“With our team on the way to Harrington our operations room made a request for the launch of both boats from Workington Lifeboat to assist in the search.

“With Coastguard rescue officers at vantage points in the vicinity of Harrington and our officer In charge with colleagues from Cumbria police, the lifeboats were soon on scene.

“The first informant identified the location and a faint outline of the boat could be seen through binoculars.

“The lifeboat was soon alongside and confirmed the two people were safe and well.

“As always, we would like to thank the first informant for raising their concerns, and thankfully on this occasion it was a safe outcome.”
